Add QSOs page upgrade
A minor software upgrade has been made to the page used by applicants to add QSO information via the web-form. Most users will see little change, since the upgrade mainly 'tidies-up' some of the software code. If you have German set as your preferred language, however, you will now see this page in German (Translation TNX DK1RV) and Italian users will see error and warning messages reported by this page in Italian (Translation TNX IK1ADH). We plan to add support for other languages gradually but please bear with us as it is a time-consuming process.

G3KMA, 28 Jul 2008IOTA Contest 2008
The IOTA Contest takes place from 12:00 UTC on 26th July for 24 hours. Please note that the contest is organised by the RSGB's Contest Committee, not by the IOTA Committee. The contest rules can be found at iotacontest.com.
IOTA Award chasers are reminded that it will be possible to claim credit for QSOs that you make during the contest without a QSL card after the contest results have been published, but only if you enter using your normal personal callsign (not a contest call), and your entry is a single-operator entry (except clubs).
During the contest weekend, we would like to ask users to please avoid adding QSOs to your records and submitting claims. This is to enable the site to run as quickly as possible for contesters wishing to search for information on the site. Thank you for your cooperation and good luck in the contest.
M0BLF, 21 Jul 2008Vacancy for IOTA Checkpoint
Jim Smith VK9NS has informed the IOTA Committee that he wishes to relinquish the post of IOTA Checkpoint for the West Pacific area as soon as a replacement can be appointed. The Committee considers that the new checkpoint should be resident preferably on the Australian mainland, have a registered score on the IOTA database and be conversant with and be prepared to work within the programme's rules. As IOTA application is now an on-line process, would-be applicants for this volunteer post should understand that the task does not just involve checking of cards but requires a reasonable level of competence in computer skills and above average attention to detail. If you think you are qualified and wish to take it on, please apply to g3kma@dsl.pipex.com by 10 July 2008. We would like to thank Jim for all his service and strong support of IOTA over the last 10 or more years.
G3KMA, 10 Jun 2008Postal awards delayed
Please note that requests for certificates and other awards to be sent by post are being delayed because the RSGB headquarters is relocating. We hope that they will be mailed in the next few weeks. Electronic certificates are, of course, unaffected.
M0BLF, 20 Apr 2008The Passing of a Remaining Link with IOTA 1964
I heard this morning with sadness that Bill Hall, G8JM passed away last Sunday, 6 April 2008. Bill was active in the IOTA Programme from its inception in 1964 until around 2001. He was the FIRST AMATEUR to receive the IOTA 100 Islands Certificate on 14 August 1966. He was not the first recipient - Geoff Watts issued No. 1 the same day to a Swedish SWL. Between 1966 and 1969 Bill received either No. 1 or No. 2 of seven other IOTA certificates. This demonstrated his commitment to Geoff's new and exciting initiative. Remember, in those days everything was down to one's own efforts - there was no Internet, no DX Cluster, no IOTA support group or net and IOTA orientated DXpeditions were almost non-existent. In 1997 Bill received IOTA's 750 Islands Plaque of Excellence No. 59. G8JM was a part of IOTA's early history who will be sadly missed.
G3KMA, 09 Apr 2008IOTA Contest 2007 QSOs
We have now investigated the reported bug and identified the problem, so we are now permitting credits from the contest data for the 2007 contest again. If you have already claimed contest 2007 QSOs, you will not have lost any of your credits, but if you upload your cabrillo file again, you might find that you have some more available now.
M0BLF, 02 Apr 2008IOTA Contest 2007 QSOs
We have received a report of a possible bug in the contest QSOs checking for 2007 contest QSOs. As a precaution, we have stopped accepting these QSOs until we have investigated the potential problem further. A message will appear here when we have resolved the issue.
M0BLF, 26 Mar 2008IOTA Contest 2007 QSOs accepted
The site maintenance period has now been completed. Thank you for your patience during the past few weeks. We are pleased to be able to inform you that the logs from the IOTA Contest in July 2007 were added to the site during the down-time, and claims for these QSOs can now be made using the contest credits facility.
M0BLF, 25 Mar 2008QSO Upload Restrictions, Site Closure in March
In order for the HQ team to upgrade the webserver and its software, the ability to upload/claim QSOs or submit a claim to your checkpoint will be suspended for approximately 3 weeks from 1200z on March 1st. Other site features will remain available including listings of personal credits and Directory searches. In addition the site will be completely unavailable for 2-3days after 2359z on Saturday 22nd March.
G3ZAY, 24 Feb 20082008 Honour Roll
A reminder that updates for the February 2008 Honour Roll and Annual Listing need to be submitted within the next few days. The last date for sending applications electronically (by far the preferred method) and posting cards is 1 February. Any scores changed by updates submitted after that date will be held over until the next appearance of the listings. No decision has been taken on when this will be and particularly whether it will be possible to schedule it for later this year. An announcement will be made in due course. It is expected that the February Honour Roll and Annual Listing will be published in the Spring.
G3KMA, 19 Jan 2008A present from the development team
Logged-in users of the site will notice that a new column has appeared in the DX spots listing on the homepage, indicating whether you need the IOTA Group. We hope that you find this new feature useful. On behalf of the rsgbiota.org team, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all of our visitors and users.
M0BLF, 25 Dec 20072007 Honour Roll
The 2007 Honour Roll and Annual Listing are now available. Please follow the links in the Programme Information section. Apologies for the long delay - the IOTA team has had to focus on developing and debugging the new website this year.
G3ZAY, 16 Dec 2007Is your preferred language set correctly?
At the start of next year, we will start translating some of this website into other languages. When we do this, the website will decide which language to show you either on the basis of your web-browser's configuration if you are not logged-in, or your profile settings if you are logged-in. We are therefore now asking all users with passwords for the site to login and use the 'edit my profile' link to check that your language setting is correct. Thank you.
M0BLF, 20 Oct 2007QSO Uploads
QSO uploads are now enabled for all customers. Thank you for your patience. Please remember to check in the Help section for the instructions, which are available in many different languages.
M0BLF, 01 Oct 2007QSO uploads
QSO uploads are now open to customers of the following checkpoints (in addition to the four previously announced): BRS-8841, DK1RV, G3LAS. To remind you, we do ask that you read the instruction manual on claiming QSOs before trying to use the system. English and German versions are linked from the Help page.
If you are a customer of another checkpoint, we thank you for your continued patience. You should have access in the next few days.
